Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How do I know if I really need therapy?
If you’re asking this question, it’s often a sign of self-awareness. People seek therapy for many reasons—not just for major crises. If you’re feeling persistently stuck, overwhelmed, sad, or anxious, or if you’re facing a recurring pattern in your life and relationships that you can’t seem to break, talking to a professional can provide immense clarity and support. There’s no problem “too small” to deserve a safe space.
What is the difference between a listener, a counsellor, and a psychologist?
Great question! At Vent Out, we offer different levels of support to meet your unique needs.
A Wellness Listener provides a compassionate, non-judgmental space to talk through daily stress and challenges.
A Counselling Psychologist (with a Master’s degree) helps you explore deeper patterns and builds practical skills to manage issues like anxiety and low mood.
A Clinical Psychologist (with an RCI-licensed M.Phil) is an expert qualified to provide psychotherapy for the full spectrum of mental health conditions.
How much does a therapy session cost?
We believe in transparent and accessible mental health care. Our session fees depend on the qualification level of the professional you choose to see. Vent Out offers a range of affordable therapy options, starting with our Wellness Listeners and moving up to our Senior Clinical Psychologists, ensuring you can find support that fits your budget. You can view all our clear, straightforward prices on our pricing page.
Is online therapy really confidential and secure?
Yes, absolutely. Your privacy is our highest priority. All communication with your therapist is end-to-end encrypted. We use a secure, HIPAA and GDPR-compliant platform for all our video consultations. What you share in your session stays in your session, protected by strict professional ethics and robust technology.
What happens in the first session? I’m nervous.
It’s completely normal to feel nervous! Your first session is simply a conversation. It’s a safe, welcoming space for you to share a bit about what’s on your mind and for the therapist to listen and understand. It’s also a chance for you to see how you feel with them. There’s no pressure to share anything you’re not comfortable with. The goal is simply to connect.
How often do I need to have sessions?
The frequency of sessions is a collaborative decision between you and your therapist. For some, a weekly session provides consistent support and momentum. For others, a session every two weeks might be more appropriate. It completely depends on your unique needs, goals, and circumstances.
Will I need medication?
Psychotherapy and medication are two different tools. Our psychologists at Vent Out provide talk therapy. They do not prescribe medication. However, if during your journey your psychologist believes that a consultation with a medical professional might be beneficial, they will discuss this with you openly. With your full consent, we can then facilitate a seamless referral to a trusted psychiatrist at our partner OREYORU Wellness centers.
How can I be sure that the person I’m talking to is a qualified and high-quality professional?
That is an incredibly important question, and it’s at the very heart of our promise to you. Our process for ensuring quality is meticulous and has two main stages:
1. Rigorous Selection: Every practitioner on the Vent Out platform undergoes a careful selection process. We verify their academic qualifications (Graduation/Post-Graduation in Psychology) and conduct multi-level interviews to assess their empathy, communication skills, and professional aptitude.
2. Expert-Led OREYORU Academy Training: Qualification is just the starting point. Every selected professional is then required to complete an intensive training program at our OREYORU Academy. This program is designed and personally overseen by Vent Out’s founder, Joyson Joy P, an RCI-licensed Clinical Psychologist. The curriculum is uniquely structured to go beyond textbooks, drawing upon his diverse clinical experience from some of India’s most respected institutions—including the Indian Navy (INHS), premier research institutes like NIMHANS and PGIMER, and his work with the bright minds at the IITs.
This unique combination of careful selection and training, led by a clinical psychologist with such varied, real-world expertise, is our way of ensuring that when you connect with a Vent Out professional, you are in safe, capable, and deeply compassionate hands.
